The Road to Arakan
The slogan of the Arakan Rohingya National Council (ARNC). This is not only a phrase but it is the guiding compass for our people’s journey towards justice, dignity, dignified return to our motherland Arakan and a peaceful coexistence.
For us, Rohingya, Arakan is not just a place on the map. It is the land of our ancestors, where our culture, traditions, and history took root for centuries. Yet, for too long, our community has been denied the right to live freely and with security in our motherland. Displacement, persecution, statelessness and genocide have forced the vast majority of us far from Arakan, but the bond between the land and our hearts and minds remains unbroken.
The Road to Arakan is both literal and symbolic.
- Literal, because we envision the safe and dignified return of all Rohingya refugees around the world and internally displaced persons to their original homes in Arakan.
- Symbolic, because it represents the journey towards the restoration of our fundamental rights, our security, and our rightful place in the life of Arakan.
This road is not an easy one. It is marked by obstacles, but also by the courage of our people and the solidarity of those who stand with us. ARNC works tirelessly on political, humanitarian, and diplomatic fronts to ensure that the path remains open, a path built on truth, accountability, justice and reconciliation.
Every step along The Road to Arakan is a step towards a future where the Rohingya live in peace alongside all communities in Arakan, as equal citizens under the protection of international law. We invite you to walk with us on this road to stand for justice, to speak for the voiceless, and to keep hope alive until the day Arakan is once again a place of safety and belonging for all its people.
