Your election to this important and prestigious position is a recognition of your distinguished leadership, diplomatic experience, and commitment to international peace, justice, and human dignity. It is also a proud moment for Bangladesh and for the wider region.
With this new global responsibility, we are confident that you will continue your important work on the Rohingya issue with even greater energy, influence, and opportunity. The Rohingya people have endured decades of persecution, displacement, denial of citizenship, and grave human rights violations. We sincerely hope that you will use every possible avenue available through your new position to advance justice and accountability for the Rohingya people, and to support their dignified, safe, voluntary, and sustainable return to their ancestral homeland, Arakan in Myanmar.
At this critical moment, your leadership can help strengthen international attention and meaningful action to end the ongoing genocide against our people by the Burmese military and now the Arakan Army, who continue to act with total impunity. Your leadership can also help restore the rights and dignity of the Rohingya people and ensure a future rooted in justice, peace, and security.
